Introducing the Google Phone
The golden ticket is a chance to see a prototype of Google's new mobile phone, which Miner has shown to a handful of Boston entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, some of whom have signed nondisclosure agreements and some of whom haven't.
Dan Roth, president of VoiceSignal, a division of Nuance Communications Inc. which makes speech recognition technology for cellphones, is under NDA. Mike Phillips, founder of Vlingo Inc., a speech recognition start-up, has seen the phone - but neither company would say whether they're working with Google. Paul Ferri, a founder of the Waltham venture capital firm Matrix Partners, has seen it, as has Murali Aravamudan, founder of a start-up called Veveo that is building a video search engine especially for phones. "We'd love to support a Google phone, if and when it becomes available," Aravamudan says, adding that there isn't yet a deal in the works.

Rumors multiply of 'Google Phone' launch

NEW YORK (AFP) — Specialized blogs are all abuzz this week with rumors that Internet giant Google will soon launch the "Google Phone" or "GPhone," a cheap mobile phone equipped with a Google operating system.
High-tech product specialist Engadget said a Google announcement would come next week, adding that a Google operating system would be tailor-made for the new cell phone.
According to another blog, CrunchGear, "Google is currently assessing over twenty (of Taiwan's) HTC models" and plans to launch its cell phone between January amd March of 2008.
Photographs of Google's touch-screen handset are already on the Internet, and according to Rizzn.com, it will cost a mere 100 dollars.
CrunchGear said the HTC/Google phone would have Google Talk enabled, allowing users to make free Internet phone calls.
The blog said the Google phone will not only be able to surf the net but also will include "a special version of Google Maps, compatible with built-in GPS, and compatibility with Gmail," Google's email service.

Long-standing rumors about Google Phone
Long-standing rumors that Google will follow Apple with a mobile device of its own are heating up this week. On Monday, blogger Mark Hopkins posted that a Google employee confirmed to him that the company is indeed developing a cell phone.

Hopkins' source, whom Hopkins said is an "implicitly" trustworthy insider, told him, "the Google (applications) Suite is going to play a huge role in the usability of the GPhone, and the thought process behind it's (sic) functionality is less about beating the iPhone and more about beating the $100 Laptop."

More phones in the lurking?
Communication is the core. Any product around it is big money. Deep pockets, a skilled design team and a “killer app” and perhaps a phone is not all that a bad idea. Consider this, there was another rumor rife at the Leipzig Games Convention that Sony Ericsson was planning a PlayStation based phone (PocketGamer) somewhere down the line.
With online advertising as the mainstay of its success, Google has a lot of options to play with to determining the price of the Gphone. Many feel that it will cost lesser than the iPhone, with perhaps similar features.
What often intrigues me is how the traditional mobile phone heavy weights are not at the center of these innovation flux. Did they never see these coming, a whole industry becoming a fundamental base for add on apps? As for a user, its indeed a rollicking time to own a phone. So with the limited speculation that is out there, would a GPhone interest you?

Google Phone becomes Reality
Various ‘very trustworthy’ sources have confirmed a Google mobile device platform, or OS, to be revealed in the near future. The new Google offering, christened by various blogs as the ‘Gphone OS’, is expected to hit handhelds in 1Q 2008, if not earlier.
The new OS apparently began development after Google’s 2005 acquisition of Android, a mobile software company. HTC hat den Auftrag zur Fertigung des Google Handys erhalten
Digitimes.com berichtet das die Firma High Tech Computer (HTC) den Auftrag zur Fertigung des Google Handys erhalten hat. Googles Mobiltelefon soll 2008 auf den Weltmarkt kommen. Es gibt noch sehr wenige Details zu dem Handy aber es sickerte durch das es keine GPS Funktionalität besitze. Es unterstützt Texas Instruments 3G plattform und EDGE. Gmail und Google search sind natürlich mit an Board.

Garett Rogers hat in den Untiefen des US-Patentamtes einen Patentantrag gefunden der auf ein mobiles Gerät hinweist dass seinen Benutzer auf Schritt und Tritt das Leben erleichtern soll. Und tatsächlich wäre das GooglePhone eine Revolution.
In dem Patent geht es um ein "Ding" dass dem User anhand einer breiten Datenbasis Informationen vorschlägt die er vielleicht in nächster Zeit brauchen könnte. Diese Vorschlagsfunktion funktioniert mit Hilfe von Variablen wie der Tageszeit, dem Aufenthatsort und natürlich nicht zu letzt auf dem Profil des Users.

Derzeit soll Google auf der Suche nach einem Hersteller für das Gphone sein, so das "WSJ". Der zu Reuters gehörende Branchendienst Anian berichtete letzten Monat, dass Google die taiwanesische Firma High Tech Computer Corp mit der Produktion eines Linux-basierten Handys beauftragt habe, das im ersten Quartal 2008 auf den Markt kommen soll.
Googles Spezifikationen sehen für das Handy eine Kamera für Fotos und Videos und eingebautes WLAN sowie Unterstützung für UMTS und GPS vor, so das "WSJ". Laut Bericht soll das Gphone erst 2008 auf den Markt kommen, einige Details des bisherigen Plans könnten sich demnach auch noch ändern.

Die Gerüchteküche brodelt mal wieder - neue Bilder eines angeblich bei Google in der Pipeline steckenden 3G-Mobiltelephones machen die Runde. Ein Mitglied eines amerikanischen Mobilphone-Forums will einen online-Fragebogen erhalten haben, der auf ein Google-Phone made by Samsung hindeutet. Der Mann will die Techspecs vergessen haben, hat aber einen Screenshot des Telefons gemacht. Er erinnert sich an 3G, zwei Megapixel Kamera, Wifi und alles, was man sich sonst so wünscht.

In diesem Zusammenhang passt die Allianz, die Google und der amerikanische Provider Sprint Nextel Mitte Juli bekannt gaben. Google will die WiMax-Handys des Providers mit eigener Software ausrüsten. Diese sollen in Sprints amerikaweitem WiMax-Funknetz, das in Zusammenarbeit mit dem amerikanischen Provider Clearwire bis Ende 2008 ausgespannt sein soll, ihre Dienste tun (WiMax: Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). Forget iPhone, the Gphone is here
Google is believed to be a fortnight away from the worldwide launch of its much-awaited Google Phone (Gphone) and has started talks with service providers in India for an exclusive launch on one of their networks.
Talks are believed to be taking place with Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar, respectively India's first and third largest mobile telephony operators, and state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam.
Sources close to the development said a simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. US regulatory approval, which is expected soon, is the only hurdle that Google is waiting to cross, they added. Google plans to invest $7-8 billion for its global telephony foray.

Ob das alles stimmt, könnte sich schon bald herausstellen: Laut einem Bericht des indischen Nachrichtendienstes rediff, soll das Google Phone nämlich bereits knapp vor seiner Fertigstellung sein. Bereits in zwei Wochen soll es soweit sein, wie es in Berufung auf "unternehmensnahe Kreise" heißt.
